Maika joined our team in early 2017, she is passionate about learning about new cultures, through language, music, art, and literature, which led her to choose a career as a translator in 2003.
She has experience in Quality Control and linguistic services such as translation, proofreading, edition, localization and post-edition in IT, computer science, medicine, video games and legal documentation.
In her free time, Maika likes to read a good book before going to bed or do some cross stitching while watching a movie. When the weather is good, she enjoys hiking and cycling in areas close to Melbourne city. The Great Ocean Road is one of her favourite areas for a short weekend escape.
Besides working as a professional freelance translator and volunteering with Melbourne Filmoteca, Maika is also volunteering for CMY, for the Ucan2 program for young people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds. She is a mentor trying to facilitate their adaptation process in Australia by helping them to learn English and other skills. Maika finds this experience really valuable for her learning, as she would like to become a professional English teacher in the future.
Maika is originally from a small Spanish town called Castellón de la Plana, (about 60 kms north of Valencia). Like most members of Melbourne Filmoteca, what she misses the most are friends and family, especially having to miss reunions and important events.
